Dirt jumping (DJ) area

DJ is one of the names given to the practice of riding bikes over shaped mounds of dirt or soil and getting airborne. The idea is that after riding over the 'take off' the rider will become momentarily airborne, and aim to land on the 'landing'. Tricks and stunts can be carried out while the rider is airborne.

This style of mountain bike riding requires a high skill level and is very popular for riders in their teens and twenties. Jump parks are designed with a series of progressive jumps from beginner to expert. However this area of riding seems to have the most negative public perception. This could be due to the average age of the rider or the fact that their are no legitimate parks (so parks are made without full permission). Dirt Jumping is a competitive sport and has competitions all over the world. Unfortunately not many of the competitions are held in the UK due to the lack of facilities. The RED BULL ELEVATION is one of the biggest dirt jumping competitions. It will be difficult to compete with the Americans domination of the events until we get equivalent training facilities.

The dirt jump park will be constructed outside the Reddish Vale LNR, in an area with no environmental issues. Going down Tiviot way, it will be situated on the right hand side. Both MTB's and BMX's can ride the dirt park.
