A Warm Welcome to Reddish Vale Mountain Bike Centre
The Reddish Vale MTB Centre proposal is an idea born out of living in the beautiful Tame Valley situated between Denton, Brinnington and Reddish. It has been put forward, to the Council, by the Manchester Mountain Bikers. MMB is a local group of riders, over 100 strong, with 5 main organisers.
The Vale has an established bike path down an old railway line that is part of the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT). However, this needs to be expanded as just off the road is where the fun begins!
We propose to have an "off road" MTB park suitable for all ages and abilities. This will be placed in a small area of the park not currently used. We believe this site will have national importance as a training facility. With mountain biking being a recognised Olympic sport it is important to have the facilities to train the new 'blood' coming into the sport. This facility could help produce some local stars for our 2012 Olympic team.
As the park is being designed from 'scratch' we would like to design it so it's usable by for athletes with lower limb disabilities. If you think it's imposible to cycle with a lower limb disability, be inspired by this video and this group.
It will involve the building of a MTB track in the park from soil then planting a woodland to cover the entire area. This will improve the look of the Vale and increase wildlife. The paths around the Vale will be improved to four season standards (stoned) and a new visitors centre with café will be constructed. The project is self funding and will require NO money from the tax payers of Stockport.
With the nearest facilities like this being based in Chicksands, Bedfordshire, it is expected that this proposal will attract MTB riders from Birmingham up to Carlisle. However the greatest positive outcome is the provision of facilities for the local people of Brinnington, Denton and Reddish. It will provide an exciting alternative activity for young adults of the area.
What we need is the support of the local communities, businesses and the wider area of Greater Manchester. Being only 5 miles away from the centre of Manchester, it is easy to get to for all the people of the North West. There is also a direct link off the motorway! Please look at the "Support" tab to see how you can help. We would appreciate you signing our guest book.
